Onyx Box Co.

Rental Terms

These terms, together with the checkout order summary, govern your temporary rental of reusable moving crates, lids, Tote Taxis, labels, and any other listed equipment from Onyx Box Co.

Effective: October 15, 2026Contact: team@onyxboxco.comAgreement version: 2026-10-15

1. Rental term and ownership

The rental begins when the equipment is delivered or placed in your possession and ends when Onyx Box Co. collects and accepts it. Onyx Box Co. retains ownership of all rental equipment. You may not sell, sublease, pledge, alter, or abandon it.

The standard rental period is 14 days unless your order summary states otherwise. An extension is effective only after we confirm availability and the additional charge in writing or electronically.

2. Delivery, inspection, and collection

You must provide accurate addresses, access instructions, parking information, and a safe delivery and collection location. An adult age 18 or older must be available when reasonably required. We may postpone or refuse service when access, weather, animals, traffic, stairs, or other conditions create an unreasonable safety risk.

Please report any shortage, visible damage, contamination, or nonworking component within four hours after delivery, with photos when reasonably available. If no visible issue is reported within that period, the equipment will be presumed delivered in the quantity and visible condition recorded by us, except for defects a reasonable inspection would not reveal.

You must empty, nest, and make all equipment accessible during the scheduled collection window. A missed or inaccessible collection may result in a reasonable rescheduling charge only when disclosed before acceptance or agreed when rescheduling.

3. Proper use

Use the equipment only for ordinary residential packing, storage during your move, and transportation of lawful household items. Keep it reasonably dry, secure, and protected from avoidable damage.

  • Do not load more than 50 pounds in any crate.
  • Do not stand, sit, climb, ride, or allow any person or animal inside or on the equipment.
  • Do not store or transport flammable, explosive, corrosive, toxic, illegal, hazardous, or regulated materials.
  • Do not place unpackaged food, leaking liquids, paint, oil, fuel, chemicals, hot materials, or items likely to stain or create persistent odors in a crate.
  • Do not drill, cut, paint, permanently mark, remove identification labels, or modify the equipment.

4. Packing responsibility

You are responsible for deciding what to pack, selecting suitable padding and protection, closing lids correctly, distributing weight safely, and securing crates during transportation. The equipment is not waterproof, fireproof, theft-proof, climate-controlled, or designed to protect fragile or unusually valuable property without appropriate packing.

Do not place cash, jewelry, securities, original records, irreplaceable items, sensitive electronics, or other unusually valuable property in the equipment unless you accept the risk and use suitable additional protection and insurance.

5. Charges and payment authorization

You will pay the charges shown in your order summary. We will not add a fee that was not disclosed before acceptance or later approved by you, except documented charges authorized by these terms for late, missing, damaged, or unusually contaminated equipment.

You authorize Onyx Box Co. and its payment processor to keep the payment method associated with your order on file through final inspection and to charge amounts due under these terms. Before an additional post-rental charge, we will send an itemized notice explaining the charge. You may dispute it by contacting team@onyxboxco.com within seven days. We may charge an undisputed amount after that notice period or a disputed amount after good-faith review and written response.

No security deposit applies unless a deposit and its refund conditions appear in your order summary before you accept the order.

6. Late returns and extensions

If equipment is not ready or available for collection on the agreed date and we have not approved an extension, the daily late-return charge shown in your order summary applies for each calendar day until collection or until the equipment is determined lost. The daily rate is the package price divided by 14, rounded up to the next whole dollar.

Late charges compensate for additional equipment use and inventory disruption. We will make reasonable efforts to arrange collection and reduce avoidable charges.

7. Loss, damage, and cleaning

From delivery until collection, you are responsible for loss, theft, destruction, and damage beyond ordinary wear to equipment in your possession or control, except when caused by a preexisting defect, our failure to provide conforming equipment, or our negligence or willful misconduct.

For missing, destroyed, or irreparably damaged equipment, you will owe the applicable replacement amount disclosed in the order summary, limited to our reasonable anticipated or actual replacement loss. Repairable damage is charged at the reasonable repair cost, not exceeding the disclosed replacement amount.

Routine washing and sanitation are included. A documented excess-cleaning or remediation charge, up to the cap shown in your order summary, may apply when equipment is returned with prohibited material, strong odor, paint, oil, food waste, hazardous residue, infestation, or contamination beyond ordinary moving use.

8. Cancellation and service changes

Unless your order summary provides a more favorable policy, you receive a full refund when you cancel at least 48 hours before the delivery window, a 50% refund when you cancel 24 to 48 hours before delivery, and no refund when you cancel less than 24 hours before delivery. You may request one no-charge reschedule more than 24 hours before delivery, subject to availability.

If we cancel before delivery because equipment is unavailable or we cannot perform, you may choose a full refund or an available replacement date. If severe weather, road closure, emergency, government action, or another event outside either party’s reasonable control delays service, we will reasonably reschedule. You may cancel for a full refund if we cannot offer a reasonable alternative.

9. Our service promises

We will provide the quantity listed in your order summary in clean, serviceable condition and fit for ordinary residential moving use. We will replace timely reported nonconforming equipment when replacement inventory is available or provide an appropriate refund or credit.

Except for these promises and rights that cannot legally be limited, we do not promise that equipment is suitable for a special purpose you have not disclosed and we have not accepted in writing. Nothing here limits a warranty or consumer right that Oregon law does not permit us to limit.

10. Responsibility for injury and property loss

Each party is responsible for injury, property damage, and third-party claims to the extent caused by that party’s negligence, willful misconduct, or breach of these terms. You are responsible for claims caused by unsafe loading, improper packing, prohibited contents, unauthorized use, or misuse by you or someone you allow to use the equipment.

To the extent permitted by law, Onyx Box Co. is not responsible for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential economic loss caused by delay, loss of use, or damage to packed property when the loss was not caused by our negligence, willful misconduct, breach of an express promise, or a defect for which we are legally responsible. Nothing limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

11. Problems and disputes

Contact team@onyxboxco.com promptly with any concern. Before filing a lawsuit, each party will give the other a written description of the issue and a reasonable opportunity, normally 30 days, to resolve it. This does not prevent urgent relief or a filing needed to meet a legal deadline.

Oregon law governs these terms. Court proceedings must be brought in an Oregon court with jurisdiction, subject to consumer rights requiring a different location. Either party may use eligible small-claims procedures. These terms do not require arbitration or waive a jury-trial right.

12. Electronic records and acceptance

You agree to conduct this transaction electronically and may download or print these terms before accepting. After acceptance, we will provide an electronic copy of the terms and order summary to the email you supply.

Checking the acceptance box and selecting the final payment or reservation button is your electronic signature and intent to be bound. The electronic record may include the agreement version, order summary, date and time, email address, payment confirmation, and technical records reasonably used to verify acceptance. You may request a paper copy by emailing team@onyxboxco.com.

13. General terms

Your order summary and these Rental Terms are the complete agreement for the rental and replace prior statements about that order. Changes must be recorded in writing or electronically by both parties. A specifically negotiated term in the order summary controls if it conflicts with these standard terms.

If a court finds part of these terms unenforceable, the remaining terms remain effective and the affected term will be limited only as necessary to make it enforceable. A delay in enforcing a term is not a waiver. You may not transfer the rental agreement without our consent. We may assign it as part of a lawful sale or transfer of the business, provided your rights are not reduced.

Notices to Onyx Box Co. must be sent to team@onyxboxco.com. Notices to you may be sent to the email or phone number in your order summary.
